The SilentFlo E5 is the replacement model for the SilentFlo 5000 and other previous single speed circ pumps found on 1986 - 2009 Hot Spring and Tiger River hot tubs. Introduced in March 2008, the E5's compact size and flexible positioning has made it the industry standard circ pump for HotSpring dealerships and service centres. Using less electricity than it's predecessors whilst having a higher flow rate, the E5 can be used as a direct replacement for the SilentFlo 500, with the inlet and return in the same positions as this model.

Is a replacement Circulation Pump really necessary?

Before you decide to replace your circ pump, if it's not moving much (or indeed any) water through the spa system, there may be a simple solution.

Is the heater reset constantly tripping, or is the red power light blinking?

The primary cause of this problem is low water flow through the heater in your spa, and the primary cause of the low water flow can be dirty, clogged filters, even if they appear clean to the naked eye. If the filter that the circ pump draws water from hasn't been cleaned (usually with chemical treatment) every three months or so, then the circulation pump may be starved of the water it needs to work properly. After the water leaves the circ pump, it moves to the heater, so a clogged filter will result in poor water flow to the heater, and overheating. The heater reset will trip to prevent damage, because it acts as if you have completed a water drain without turning off the heater - a safety mechanism put in place to prevent a dry fire in the heater.

To rule out a dirty filter, clean your filters with filter degreaser. Filters should usually be replaced once every 3-5 years.

Is any water moving through the system?

If your hot tub has been left dormant and dry for any period of time, the circulation pump could be jammed, or rather, the impeller inside it may be. A firm tap on the pump's wet end with a screwdriver handle may be enough to free up the impeller, allowing the circ pump to work properly again.

Unfortunately if neither of these solutions remedy the problem, a replacement circulation pump is probably the best course of action.
